비 피해로 인해 출 퇴근 시간 교통체증이 심했는데요,
오늘은 교통관련 단어를 정리 해 볼게요!

 

pull over 뜻이 뭐죠?

# pull over

: to drive to the side of the road and stop or cause to do so.

(차를 대다, 차를 길가에 세우다.)

 

ex) Pull over to the curb. Here comes an ambulance! 

인도 쪽으로 차를 붙이세요. 구급차가 와요!

 

Can you pull over on the shoulder for a moment? 

차 좀 갓길에 잠깐만 세워줄래?

 

 

 

 

# Make a U-turn

: to turn in the shape of a U to reverse direction.

(유턴하다.)

 

ex) Let's make a U-turn over. 

저기서 유턴하자.

 

Up ahead the police are checking for cars that make an illegal U-turn. 

전방에서 경찰이 불법 유턴을 단속 중이다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

# bumper-to-bumper

: traffic that is so congested the car bumpers are only inched away from one another.

(교통이 정체된, 자동차가 꼬리를 물고)

 

ex) The cars were bumper to bumper on the road to the coast.

해안으로 가는 도로에는 차들이 꼬리에 꼬리를 물고 이어졌다.

 

It was bumper to bumper all the way back home.

집으로 돌아오는 내내 차가 밀렸다.

 

 

 

 

# stop and go

: traffic that moves in starts and stops; not free flowing.

(교통이 자주 가다 서다 함)

 

ex) I used to prefer driving stick, but not in Seoul with all this stop and go traffic.

나는 수동으로 운전하는 걸 더 좋아하지만, 이렇게 가다 서다 반복하는 서울에서는 아니야.

 

It's bumper-to-bumper and stop-and-go everywhere. 

어딜 가나 차가 꽉 막혀서 가다 서다 한다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

# gridlock

: a traffic jam that allows for no progress in any direction. 

(교통 정체)

 

ex) Seoul is notorious for its gridlock.

서울은 교통 정체로 유명하다.

 

The shocking accident caused a 10-kilometer traffic gridlock. 

그 참사로 10킬로미터에 걸친 교통체증이 발생했다.

 

 

 

 

# fender bender

: a collision between cars with only minor damage.

(가벼운 접촉 사고)

 

ex) I had a fender bender on the way home.

집으로 오는 길에 접촉 사고를 냈어.

 

I was in a fender bender this morning, could have been a lot worse.

오늘 아침에 접촉 사고당했어. 훨씬 심할 수도 있었는데 그래도 괜찮아.
